For women in tech, “having it all” can often feel like a myth, especially for those juggling demanding careers with family life. But Anastasiia, a Software Engineer in Test, is living proof that it’s possible to excel in both.
From starting as a support specialist to discovering her true passion for QA, Anastasiia`s path hasn’t been traditional, and neither has her approach to balancing work and motherhood.
In this article, Anastasiia shares her story of a woman in tech steering career changes and finding ways to balance family life without sacrificing her professional goals. Her insights will resonate with anyone balancing multiple roles and dreaming of making it in tech.
Let’s explore how Anastasiia has navigated her career in tech while remaining grounded in her personal life.
When Anastasiia first entered the tech industry, she aimed to become a front-end developer. However, as life often does, things don’t go according to plan. She started as a support specialist at GlobalLogic, where she quickly learned the demands of the role. It was challenging, but it opened the door to a career in QA.
Her passion for testing led to a deeper dive into automation. As she advanced in her career, automation became her true calling. She quickly realised that this was where she could make the most impact, solving problems before they even arose.
After her initial role at GlobalLogic, Anastasiia transitioned to another company where she worked as a QA. Having realized that automation was her vocation, she then joined Ivy Tech’s long-term client, Paydock, where she’s been an automation specialist for the past three years.
“I’m lucky to have found my niche, and Paydock has been the perfect place to grow,” Anastasiia reflects.
For Anastasiia, career growth has been about finding the right opportunities to learn, take on new challenges, and evolve as both a professional and a person. And her journey is far from over.
One of the most difficult aspects of this woman in tech developer story has been managing her work-life balance. As a mother, the pressure to balance family life with her demanding career can feel overwhelming at times. But Anastasiia has developed a system that allows her to juggle it all—without losing her sense of self.
“I’m lucky that my role doesn’t often require those crazy ‘everything’s on fire’ moments,” Anastasiia explains. “While there are times when I have to work late or handle a release, it’s generally manageable.”
But balancing work and motherhood isn’t just about finding the right job; it’s about setting clear boundaries and managing time efficiently.
Balancing motherhood and a career in tech is more achievable than ever. The shift toward remote work and flexible schedules, accelerated by the pandemic, has opened up new possibilities for parents. This environment allows us to be present for our families while growing professionally.
“For any mom doubting her ability to pursue a career in technology — know that you are far more capable than you think,” Anastasiia inspires.
The wealth of online learning resources available today makes it easier to upskill and enter the field. This way, you’re not only advancing your career but also setting a powerful example for your children — showing them that growth, persistence, and ambition can coexist with family life.
Looking back on her journey, Anastasiia has one key advice for mothers entering the tech industry: prioritizing self-care.
“As a mother, balancing family and work is tough,” Anastasiia says. “But you need to find time for yourself, too. Time with family is valuable, but it’s not rest—it’s a second job. Taking time for yourself helps you recharge and be the best version of yourself, both at work and at home.”
For Anastasiia, self-care isn’t just about relaxing; it’s about ensuring she has the energy and mental clarity to thrive in every area of her life.
This woman in tech developer story isn’t just about career success—it’s about resilience, growth, and the ability to adapt to life’s challenges. From her beginnings in support to becoming an automation expert, she’s proven that with determination, balance, and the right strategy, anything is possible.
